As the Panama papers unfold, the existence of a notorious Maltese- dominated ring of influential people/companies has emerged.  What was initially considered to be a perception has become a factual reality. And clearly, there is a common denominator, a mastermind, who is responsible, and should be accountable, for creating this web of iniquity.

All this in happening under this Labour government led by an immature, if not downright incompetent Prime Minister, who continues to project as heroes, and indeed defend, the wrongdoers who have committed the nefarious acts behind the people’s backs.  Unfortunately, it appears that the competent authorities seem to be paralysed and unable to take action without risking their livelihood.

The seriousness of this scandal of such international proportions does not appear to be understood by the Prime Minister and he keeps blabbing as if nothing has happened. The problem, of course, is that whereas he may continue to mislead the non-intellectual masses, he is not convincing anyone with an iota of intelligence, not to mention the immense damage being caused to the country internationally.

Friends of Malta are querying what is happening in Malta. Why are the checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution not functioning? Has the government lost control? Is Malta becoming a banana republic?

Unfortunately, the presidential role has been curtailed to hugs and kisses and the collection of funds for the Community Chest Fund, notwithstanding the supposedly custodial role of the Constitution. In short, democracy is being trodden upon. This is not what a normal democratic European country stands for. The integrity of the country is at stake. Who has the ability to extract the country out of this mess?
