Having started a year ago, the EEPLIANT project is now in the process of selecting laboratories and products for compliance verification testing.

Malta, through the Technical Regulations Division of the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority, is participating in the LED product group. The programme is funded by the European Commission.

Here is a brief update on the recent activities for individual product groups covered by the project – where LEDs are concerned.

Screening tests of 117 LED models from the EU market were undertaken and full scale testing continues in two laboratories for results.

Malta has contributed with nine samples of LEDs. Within the EEPLIANT project, individual participating authorities are sharing the market surveillance activities concerning this product group.

Activities include document inspection and screen and full-scale testing. Individual models for verification are being selected on a high-risk basis and with the aim of covering the relevant market share in individual countries and across the EU.

Results for individual models are being shared among surveillance authorities across the EU and legal action is being taken concerning non-compliant models.

At least 100 LED models are being verified and tested by the project. In addition, the participating authorities have shared their experience, best practice and technical knowledge on individual product categories, as well as individual legal requirements for information to be provided by suppliers. Any EU surveillance authorities are invited to cooperate
