Ms Grillo took top spot in the 'beam' category, adding the gold medal to a bronze she won the previous day in the overall category and another bronze she and her teammates won for Malta in the teams category.

The other members of Malta's bronze-winning gymnast team are Emma Camilleri, Niamh Agius and Leah Barber.

Malta's three medal haul was hailed as a positive result by the Malta Olympic Committee. Malta took part in three disciplines - gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and table tennis - during the games.

The Jeux des Isles are annual games organised by a private entity based in Corsica titled COJI. They are aimed at young athletes aged between 12 and 18.

This year's participants included Azores Islands, Cape Verde, Martinique, Sicily, Sardinia, Jersey, Corsica, Corfu, Guyana, the Balearic Islands and Malta.
