There are now 106 restaurants with the Malta Tourism Authority Quality Assured seal – with 36 new ones added to the original 70 during the second edition last week.

Seven awards were presented, six of which were based on the results of the mystery guest visits organised by the MTA throughout the year, with the seventh, sponsored by Review Pro, for best customer feedback based on over 13,500 customer reviews.

The QA seal is valid for a two-year period with an interim visit, while the special awards are valid for one year.

The aim of the QA seal is to encourage best practice and recognise establishments that consistently deliver products of a certain quality.  The criteria is updated regularly to ensure continuous improvement across all areas; new restaurant criteria for 2016 included the requirement a minimum of 30 per cent or 20 bottles of wine from locally grown grapes available at all QA restaurants, as well as one covering compulsory training on first aid.

The QA seal is supported by the Ministry for Tourism, the MHRA and Marsovin.

The awards went to the following: Best in Class Award – De Mondion, Brookies and Diar il-Bniet; Best Service and Hospitality Award – Medina Restaurant, Commando Restaurant and Diar il Bniet; Customer Feedback Award – Lovage Bistro
