Fort St Angelo is the beacon of Cottonera and the soul of Malta. Following recent sensitive and successful restoration works, the dignity of this national symbol of solidity, independence and permanence is now compromised by the occasional use of the Valletta-facing fortification for night-time advertising displays.

This is demeaning. The fort should be above short-term opportunism. In addition, sadly, the worthy effort of all those involved in the restoration work is not enhanced by the poor standard of floodlighting and the dumped large containers close to the main entrance, creating a detrimental impact on the setting of the fort.
