Kroenke Stake: American businessman Stan Kroenke has increased his majority shareholding in Arsenal, despite discontent at the Emirates Stadium. KSE (Kroenke Sports Enterprise) UK Inc, wholly owned by Kroenke, has acquired 23 ordinary shares for £368,000, to take his shareholding to 67.05 per cent (41,721 shares), it was announced under corporate disclosure yesterday. Kroenke has been Arsenal’s majority shareholder since 2011.

Empoli: Empoli have promoted Giovanni Martusciello from assistant to first-team coach, the Serie A club said. Martusciello, who started out as assistant coach of the youth team in 2006 and has been working with the senior side for seven years, replaces Marco Giampaolo who joined the club on a one-year deal in 2015.

Barry: Everton midfielder Gareth Barry, 35, has scotched any notion of imminent retirement as he looks ahead to a 20th campaign in the Premier League. Barry will overtake Ryan Giggs’s all-time record of 632 games if he features in all 38 fixtures next term. “You’ve got to keep that desire and drive into training every day wanting to give 100 per cent,” Barry said. “I want to keep going because there is plenty of time after football to relax.”

Thill: Luxembourg forward Vincent Thill has set aside rumoured interest from Bayern Munich to sign a first professional contract with Metz. The 16-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for the club, who won promotion to Ligue 1 this season, but did win his first full international cap as a substitute against Bosnia in March. His rise has brought speculation of a move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but he has now committed his future to his current team.

Match-Fixing: Romania’s football federation (FRF) has imposed bans of between two years and two months on three coaches and 14 players at second division Gloria Buzau over match-fixing allegations. Coach Viorel Ion and assistants Marian Rosu and Romeo Bunica have been suspended from taking part in soccer-related activities for two years. They were also fined 200,000 lei ($49,803) apiece.
