Frosinone have denied any wrongdoing or association with attempted match-fixing after five Serie A matches involving the club fell under suspicion.

The Stadio Matusa side, who won promotion to the Italian top flight in 2015 only to suffer relegation back to Serie B earlier this month, became a subject of an Italian Football Federation (FIGC) investigation after suspicious betting patterns were observed regarding the dismissal of Mirko Gori in the 4-0 final-day defeat to Napoli.

A number of betting companies reported large sums of money had been placed on accumulator bets that involved a Frosinone player being sent off and Napoli going on to win the game.

Gori was shown a red card after 13 minutes of play at the Stadio San Paolo.

Four more league games involving Frosinone – including a 4-2 loss to Milan and a 4-0 reverse against Genoa – are being analysed but no charges have been brought against any club officials or players.

Frosinone have nevertheless moved to distance themselves from accusations of manipulating results.

A statement published on frosinonecalcio.com last night read: “The club, and anyone associated with the club, firmly stress their lack of association with any incidents of sporting fraud or illicit betting transactions.

“Even though we will reject any charges, inferences or speculation about the club, we will offer our full cooperation to investigators, certain that their work will remove any suspicion from the matches in which Frosinone took part.”
