Up-and-coming Gozitan violinist Pierre Louis Attard, who just concluded his undergraduate studies at the Ian Tomlin Academy, Napier University, Edinburgh, Scotland, will team up with pianist Gisele Grima for two consecutive recitals.
The first will be held at the Ministry for Gozo Hall, Victoria on Friday at 7.45pm and the second at the Teatru Salesjan, Sliema on Saturday at 7.30pm.
The programme includes Johannes Brahms’s Scherzo (from the F-A-E Sonata), Charles Ives’s Violin Sonata No. 4, Béla Bartók’s Violin Rhapsody No. 1, Manuel de Falla’s Danse Espagnole (from La Vida Breve) and Paul Patterson’s Luslawice Variations for solo violin.
Works by Ives, Bartok and Patterson will probably be performed for the first time in our islands.
The concerts will be dedicated to the memory of Ian Tomlin, who tirelessly supported and encouraged young Maltese musicians to pursue their music.
Both Attard and Grima are themselves former Ian Tomlin scholars at Napier.
