Following the first two concerts in the Piano Concerto series, Swiss conductor and flutist Kaspar Zehnder will be in Malta to conduct the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in the third concert of the series featuring at the Manoel Theatre on Friday. This concert is being produced in collaboration with the theatre.

This concert consists of an eclectic programme of interesting and challenging works, kicking off with Alex Vella Gregory’s Rhytmii Vitae, followed by Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos, which marked the beginning of the composer’s ‘great period’.

Marco Rivoltini and Natascha Chircop will perform as soloists in this piece.

The last two works in the concert are Benjamin Britten’s Scottish Ballade and Anton Dvorak’s monumental Symphony No. 6 in D Major, which captures both the Czech national style and standard Germanic classical-romantic form.

Zehnder is artistic director of the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra and of the Murten Classics Festival, and maintains close ties with the Paul Klee Centre in Bern as member of the Ensemble Paul Klee had served as music director between 2005 and 2012.

The concert starts at 8pm.
