I read with interest the contribution by Roger Davies Barrett (May 3).

Like him, I also served with the Royal Air Force for a long time and then retired with a service pension. But, as he says, “we are being robbed all the time by our Maltese government”.

Since 1973, both political parties promised us that as soon as they are in government, they will undo this injustice once and for all and will give us our full service pension as should be. Very nice words.

The only person who tried to remedy our pension was Alfred Sant in 1997 but when his government collapsed the new Nationalist administration, under Eddie Fenech Adami, threw all the documents related to our service pension into the bin and said bye- bye to all the promises made.

Now, like all other ex-servicemen, I have lost interest in receiving my rights in my lifetime. However, my biggest regret today is that I used to believe in politicians of both parties but they are all the same.  Their only interest is to get in power.

They have no problem with their pension; they fixed it themselves  and both parties agreed on that. There was no division in the House...

I rest my case.
