CSKA Sofia: CSKA Sofia beat top-flight side Montana 1-0 in a pulsating Bulgarian Cup final yesterday to become the first third division outfit to win the competition in its 76-year history. CSKA, the Balkan country’s most successful club, were demoted in June because of a financial crisis. Midfielder Stanislav Malamov scored the only goal from close range, after Angel Granchov headed down captain Boris Galchev’s corner in the 12th minute, as his team lifted the trophy for the 20th time.

Fernandez: Luis Fernandez has quit as Guinea coach one week before they play a vital Africa Cup qualifier away in Swaziland. “It is a termination of contract by mutual agreement after the changes at the head of the Guinea federation,” Fernandez said. FIFA last month appointed a committee to take over the running of the association following what they described as “internal wrangles affecting the FGF that have halted all football competition in Guinea”.

Favre: Lucien Favre has been appointed as the new head coach of Nice. The former Borussia M’gladbach boss has a signed a three-year contract and will replace former boss Claude Puel hours after he failed to negotiate a contract extension. The 58-year-old, who led Gladbach to third place in the Bundesliga during his four-and-a-half year spell, will be officially unveiled as manager today.

Hertha: Hertha Berlin will continue to play at the Olympiastadion until 2025 after renewing their contract. The decision to prolong their stay at Germany’s national stadium, where Hertha have played their home games since 1963, was taken at the club’s annual general meeting. Their previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Delecroix: FC Lorient have signed goalkeeper Paul Delecroix from Ligue 2 club Chamois Niortais. The 27-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 outfit after his contract at Niort was due to expire. Having spent three seasons at Niort, Delecroix now becomes Lorient’s first signing of the summer.
