Cycling: Geraint Thomas has signed a two-year contract extension to remain with Team Sky until 2018. The Welshman has contributed much to their success since they were established in 2010 and is again expected to be influential in the team’s pursuit of a fourth Tour de France in July. It is believed the new contract commits him to one year with the option of a further 12 months.

Basketball, NBA: Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined to score 63 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder routed the Golden State Warriors 133-105 on Sunday to take a 2-1 in the Western Conference finals. The 133 points were a Thunder playoff record and the most points scored by any team this post-season. Durant scored 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line to go along with eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Westbrook tallied 30 points and 12 assists, and he was two rebounds away from his first triple-double of the post-season.

Gymnastics: South Korea has given Olympic vault champion Yang Hak-seon some breathing room in his race to regain fitness after injury left his chances of making the team for the Rio Games hanging by a thread. Yang ruptured his right Achilles in March during practice but was included in a preliminary list for the Rio Olympics announced on Sunday by the Korea Gymnastic Association (KGA). The 23-year-old, who became South Korea’s first gold medal winner in gymnastics at the 2012 London Games, would be the country’s best hope of a medal in Rio if he was fit, KGA official Han Chung-sik told Reuters yesterday.

Cricket: Chris Woakes has replaced injured all-rounder Ben Stokes in the England squad for the second test against Sri Lanka, the English Cricket Board said yesterday. Stokes limped off with a knee injury during England’s first test victory at Leeds and further scans ruled him out of the second match, which begins at Chester-le-Street on Friday. All-rounder Woakes, who has won six test caps, will join the England squad today.

Golf: Sergio Garcia won the AT&T Byron Nelson in Texas on Sunday, matching the late Seve Ballesteros for most career victories by a Spaniard on the PGA Tour. Garcia collected his ninth tour victory when he edged American Brooks Koepka in a playoff at the TPC Four Seasons in Irving. “I won a bit a la Seve today. I wasn’t really on,” Garcia said. Garcia carded a closing 68, while Koepka shot 71. They finished at 15-under 265, one stroke ahead of American Matt Kuchar.

Motor Racing: Canada’s James Hinchcliffe turned in a fearless performance on Sunday when he grabbed pole for the Indianapolis 500, one year after being critically injured in a crash during practice at the famed Brickyard. Hinchcliffe will be joined on the front row for next Sunday’s centennial showcase by two Americans, Josef Newgarden and 2014 Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay.
