A young man who was accused of seriously injuring a policeman in 2012 has been acquitted after a court ruled that the prosecution did not adequately prove their case.

Clint Dalton, 26 from St Paul's Bay, had been charged with causing Vincent Cutajar grievous injuries, assaulting and threatening him, breaching public peace, breaching bail conditions and relapsing.

The victim, Mr Cutajar, had testified that he had gone to Fuego in Qawra to break up a fight and ended up being attacked by a group of people. He recognised the accused as one of them.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef had testified in 2012 that the footage clearly showed Mr Dalton out beyond his curfew and involved in a fight with a police officer.

The policeman was allegedly hit in the face with a glass.

After sifting through the evidence brought forth by the prosecution and the defence, and even after viewing the CCTV footage and photographs exhibited to the court, Magistrate Joe Mifsud held that the accused had managed to prove on a balance of probability that he did not cause the plaintiff any injuries.

The accused was therefore cleared of all the charges brought against him.
