Houllier: Former France and Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier looks set to return to Olympique Lyon as general manager, the Ligue 1 club’s president said yesterday. “We’ve been working with Gerard Houllier so that he becomes the general manager,” Jean-Michel Aulas, who added that former Lyon players Cris and Gregory Coupet would be part of head coach Bruno Genesio’s staff, said. Houllier’s return is subject to a medical.

Tonelli: Napoli have signed defender Lorenzo Tonelli from Empoli, the Serie A club said on their website. The Empoli youth product, who made his first team debut in 2010 when they were in the second tier, helped the club to a 10th place finish in the top flight this season. “I hope that I will honour such a prestigious shirt! I’m looking forward to starting this new adventure,” the 26-year-old said.

Suarez: Luis Suarez will travel with Uruguay to the Copa America despite a hamstring injury which puts his place in the tournament in doubt, his club Barcelona confirmed. The striker limped off in the second half of Barca’s Copa del Rey final against Sevilla on Sunday and was in tears afterwards. The Copa America, which runs from June 3 to 26, marks Uruguay’s first major tournament since Suarez returned from a lengthy ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup.

Rangers: Rangers have launched legal proceedings against Charles Green and Mike Ashley. The Ibrox outfit have also notified the Court of Session in Edinburgh they plan to take action against former Rangers directors Imran Ahmad, Brian Stockbridge and Derek Llambias as well as Ashley’s SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd business. It is not yet clear what the action relates to or when it will call in court.
