Weighing scales that read out the relevant weight, a computer mouse that's actually a joystick or a water level indicator that emits a beep if you're about to overfill a cup.

These are some examples of the equipment the Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility offers to facilitate the lives of people living with disability.

The FITA-ADVICE centre has now made a concerted effort to increase access to enabling ICT products such as optical character recognition technology and magnification devices to make reading an electronic device a tad easier.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo toured the centre last Friday and got to try some of the equipment first-hand.

The centre's services are available to every person living with disability across Malta and Gozo. Services include consultancy, ICT accessibility certification and training in the use of ICT.

FITA-ADVICE centre clients can try the equipment for themselves and compare and contrast products. If they decide to buy equipment, the centre will provide them with the necessary training to use it. This includes training in ICT and office skills, allowing clients to access more specialised courses.
