Eleven of the 20 mathematically-gifted Year 5 and 6 pupils from De La Salle College, Cottonera, who took part in the first edition of the recently held High 5 Junior Mathematicians Challenge, made it through to the competition’s latter phases and were awarded a certificate of merit. There were around 67 such finalists from various schools. Photo shows the 11 pupils – Damian Abela, Favian Karl Debono, Francesco Anthony Bezzina, Jamie Cassar, Luke Attard, Luke Magri, Luke Zammit, Mark Azzopardi, Mark Sammut Peresso, Nicolai Bonello and Owen Portelli – accompanied by their teachers and Bro. Edward Galea. Azzopardi was also awarded as the best performing Year 5 pupil and was a member of the winning team. He and Bonello received a medal for excelling in the individual test and were ranked among the top 10 in the challenge.
