Six students from St Thomas More College, Santa Lucia, together with other students, took part in Youth Explore Photography (YEP), a project aimed at exploring participants’ creativity through photography as well as integrating and getting to know other students from various minority groups.

The project included five photography sessions facilitated by Times of Malta photographer Darrin Zammit Lupi that took place between January and March.

The students – Nelli Lisina, Michelle Puzhailo, Christina Rooney, Souad Shlash, Vilma Wistrand and Sophie Lang – gained basic photography skills and new perspectives that could contribute to their personal and professional development.

The project also provided the students with a space for interaction and exchange and the opportunity to develop multi-cultural friendships while promoting their personal, emotional, social and skills, confidence and self-esteem.

The project was funded by the President’s Creativity Award and the participants each received a certificate and a camera presented by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

At the end of the project, each participant chose a photo to be exhibited at San Anton Palace. The exhibition was then transferred to be school for another week.

Two of the students’ teachers – Amanda Schembri and Sarah Vella facilitated their participation in the project.
