Born in the UK, techno artist Paula Temple is known for her idiosyncratic sets and approach. She has been praised by critics like Residentadvisor.net for her “understated engagement” and for the way she raises issues related to gender and sexual equality, governmental and societal control systems and European border policies through her records.

Now, Temple will be performing a two-and-a-half-hour Hybrid DJ/live set in Malta during an event that will also see local artists Acidulant, Inc.mode and Manthrax on the bill, together with visuals by Introwerks.

Temple is known for her style of powerful techno, which includes more than a nod to industrial. She started in music in the early noughties, recording a debut EP – Colonized – that soon had her counting legends like Jeff Mills and the late John Peel among her admirers.

Temple’s debut EP made one of biggest statements for uncompromising techno, followed by remixes for avant-electronic acts The Knife, Perera Elsewhere and Planningtorock. Her refreshing, high-voltage output rapidly placed her at the forefront of new techno, with her Hybrid live/DJ sets becoming bastions at techno strongholds like Tresor, Berghain and I Love Techno. The past year saw Temple in highly well-received performances at Bloc, Kozzmozz and London’s Convergence Festival and a mini tour in the US. Her third release for R&S Records is currently in production at the studio, together with a split release for a Berlin-based label to be revealed later this year. The event takes place on Saturday at Liquid, San Ġwann. Doors open at 11pm. Tickets are available from The Mad Hatter, Marsascala, Ġugar and Café Society, Valletta, New York Best, Sliema and Ecabs in Paceville and online through.
