Paul Pogba has warned his Juventus team-mates not to take anything for granted in this evening’s Coppa Italia final.

Juve are heavy favourites as they take on Milan at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico bidding to become the first side to complete successive Serie A and Coppa Italia doubles.

The Bianconeri have enjoyed a phenomenal run of success in recent seasons and last month claimed their fifth consecutive Serie A title.

Now Massimiliano Allegri’s men are looking for a record-extending 11th Coppa win.

But despite facing a side which limped to a seventh-placed league finish this season, 34 points behind Juventus, Pogba is urging caution.

The France midfielder told the club’s website: “We must not think that we’re favourites against Milan.

“On the contrary, we need to be very humble and to know that in one-off matches like these the strongest sides do not always win.

“We need to approach the game with clear heads. A final is a final after all and both teams will be going for the victory.

“It will be a very difficult match, but if we show the necessary mental and physical toughness then we can be successful.

“We’ll see who’s the hungrier side on the night, but what I can say is that we’re eager to go down in history as the first team to win a domestic double in successive seasons.”

Milan are playing their first Coppa Italia final since 2003, the year in which they also beat Juve in the Champions League final.

Times have certainly changed since then with Milan having finished eighth, 10th and now seventh in the past three seasons.

Their fall from grace might be all the more galling given that they sacked Allegri as their manager two years ago after he guided them to first, second and third-placed finishes.

Four more coaches have been fired since then with the latest, Sinisa Mihajlovic, departing in April.

The team are currently in the charge of Cristian Brocchi, who has managed just two victories in six league games. His hopes of keeping the job could very much rest on today’s outcome.

Brocchi was left fuming after watching his side slump to a 3-1 home defeat by Roma in their final Serie A game last weekend.

It meant a seventh-placed finish in the league, the third season in a row the seven-times European champions have ended up outside the top six.

“I don’t accept that a team which wears such a prestigious shirt can play like we did on Saturday against Roma,” said Brocchi in a television interview.

“If we go into the Coppa Italia final with the same spirit then we can forget about it.”

Club president Silvio Berlusconi was filmed threatening not to pay the players if they did not improve.

“If we keep playing like that, I will not pay you any more,” he said.

“You can trying suing me, although a civil court case in Italy takes eight years.”

The only way to lend a positive note to the season would be to beat Juventus today, although even then it would only be papering over the cracks.

As Coppa Italia winners, Milan would then go into the UEFA Europa League.

Juventus have already qualified for the UEFA Champions League, so a win for them today would open up another Europa League place which would go to sixth-placed Sassuolo.

“I hope that there’s something there that these lads can pull out,” said Brocchi.

“There would be no better time to do that than in a final in which many of them have never had the opportunity to play.”
