Cycling: British Olympic gold medallist Peter Kennaugh could miss the Tour de France in July after breaking his collarbone in the Tour of California on Tuesday. The Team Sky rider, who won gold as part of Britain’s team pursuit squad on the track at London 2012 and in contention for a place in the squad for Rio this year, crashed near the end of the third stage.

Japan 2020: A Japanese official who led the successful bid for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics said the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) plans to investigate the bidding after questions were raised about payments by the bid committee. Media has reported the bid team made payments totalling more than $2m to a Singapore bank account linked to Papa Massata Diack, son of disgraced former international athletics chief Lamine Diack. Japanese officials have said the payments were legitimate consultant’s fees.

Tennis: Former world no.1 Caroline Wozniacki and rising Swiss talent Belinda Bencic have withdrawn from the French Open due to injuries, the WTA said. Wozniacki had withdrawn due to a right ankle injury while world number eight Bencic was out with a lower back injury. Wozniacki’s injury continues a difficult season for the Dane, now down to 34th in the rankings.

Giro d’Italia: Diego Ulissi claimed his second stage win of this year’s Giro d’Italia and Bob Jungels maintained his grip on the leader’s pink jersey on the 227km ride from Modena to Asolo yesterday. Italian Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) outsprinted GC contenders Jungels and Andrey Amador after the trio had broken away near the end of a largely flat stage 11. Amador crossed the line second to claim a six-second time bonus to the four of Luxembourg’s Jungels who leads the overall standings by 24 seconds.
