The spouse of an Inland Revenue employee is among those listed in the Panama Papers, the Finance Ministry said this evening.

Though details about the company in question shows it was opened before the couple got married, the Tax Commissioner took "the necessary precautions" until the investigation is carried out.

The employee has cooperated with the Inland Revenue and is currently on leave, the ministry said.

The Panama Papers are 11.5 million leaked documents that detail financial and attorney–client information for more than 214,488 offshore entities. The data is part of a massive leak from the files of Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, whose client files revealed that minister Konrad Mizzi and the prime minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri set up offshore companies in Panama while in office.
