Correspondents complaining about repeated TV programmes should see beyond Melita and GO. I am no fan of TV service providers but one has to look at the entire picture.

Apart from the pay-on-demand options, the local service providers air - in real time - the same repeated rubbish that is offered abroad.

They have no decision what is being aired from RAI or Mediaset, etc.  Should one have the opportunity to watch programmes from a satellite dish/internet, one would realise that the programmes are identical.

As adverts inserted within a given programme are regulated by legislation, a TV station operates various channels using the same material to cash in on advertising. The good programmes are aired by their premium channels at a cost we do not receive.

Incidentally, members in the EU are obliged to provide 50 per cent of their material produced in the EU. Many good productions are made by the merger of the efforts of different EU countries.  Unfortunately, these are not promoted well locally.
