Warnock: Rotherham have been unable to persuade manager Neil Warnock to extend his stay at the club. Warnock, who was tempted out of retirement aged 67, joined the Millers in February on a deal until the end of the season and after guiding them to Championship safety, the two parties discussed an extension over the last couple of weeks. However, they have been unable to agree a new contract.

Grigg: Wigan striker Will Grigg has returned to the Northern Ireland fold for their final friendly before they name their 23-man Euro 2016 squad. The 24-year-old has been recalled by Michael O’Neill for next Friday’s game with Belarus having been omitted from the last squad that faced Wales and Slovenia in the March friendlies so he could concentrate on the Latics’ promotion push.

Saul: Atletico Madrid have rewarded midfielder Saul Niguez for his consistent performances this season by handing him a new contract, increasing his commitment with the club by a year until June 2021. The 21-year-old scored a breathtaking individual goal in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich and received his first ever Spain call-up on Tuesday, named in Vicente del Bosque’s provisional squad for Euro 2016. Saul joined Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2007 after an ill-fated spell in local rivals Real Madrid’s youth set-up.

Cardiff: Cardiff have appointed head coach Paul Trollope as Russell Slade’s successor. The Championship club unveiled the former Wales midfielder at a press conference yesterday. Slade was re-moved as manager at the end of the season and has taken up a new role as head of football.

Greek Cup: AEK Athens beat league champions Olympiakos 2-1 in the Greek Cup final thanks to goals by Petros Mantalos and Rafik Djebbour at an empty ground late Tuesday.
