Upgrading works on the Corinthia Hotel Tripoli have been completed and the hotel is ready to reopen for business once the situation in the country normalises, International Hotel Investments announced today.

The works were taken in hand alongside repairs after the hotel was raided by terrorists in January last year, killing eight people in a five-hour stand-off with Libyan forces.

The raid on the prominent hotel in the Libyan capital took place on January 28 when the terrorists first set off a car bomb at a checkpoint just outside the building.

The terrorists then moved into the lobby and a number of floors.

Damage was estimated to cost around €1 million.

in a regular directors' statement to the Stock Exchange, IHI said today that in overall terms, it generated more revenue and operating profit in the first quarter of this year, compared with last year.

This notwithstanding a challenging market in London, where IHI’s associate company NLI Holdings, which owns the Corinthia Hotel, had a testing start to the year, although still gaining in market share.
