The Malta Cycling Federation Road Race National Championship got underway earlier this month in San Martin.

On the day, the Cyclist CC had the most impressive results as their riders William Hili and Hannah Pace won the Elite category and women’s race, respectively.

Hili covered the hilly route in 1:53:15 to beat the challenge coming from Team Greens duo James Mifsud (1:53.22) and Etienne Bonello (1:53.32).

Pace dominated the women’s race, held over a shorter distance, as she rode home in 1:43.14, ahead of team-mates Marie Claire Aquilina (1:45.06) and Stef Alden (1:49.10).

The Cyclist CC also had one of their promising riders, Nicholas Attard Montaldo, on the highest step of the podium after winning the race for juniors at San Martin.

Michael Camilleri, of Team Greens, was the fastest in the Masters category.

Medals were distributed to the winners in the various age group categories at the end of the race.

The next event on the cycling federation’s calendar will be from the Time Trial National Championship, at Mrieħel By-pass, on May 29.
