This year’s International Museum Day will be marked by a seminar organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Malta, in collaboration with Heritage Malta, at Fort St Elmo in Valletta, tomorrow at 6pm.

Bearing the theme, ‘Valletta as a Cultural Landscape’, the event will consist of three 20-minute talks with the first speaker being Joe Magro Conti, unit manager, Heritage Planning Unit at the Planning Authority.

The second speaker will be Joan Abela, a founding member of the Notarial Archives Resources Council, who will give an overview of contracts at the Notarial Archives related to Valletta.

The evening’s third guest speaker will be George Cini who has written two books about Strait Street and who will provide an insight into the seedy by exhilarating life along the notorious street, which was the entertainment hub for servicemen when the British Empire was in its heyday.

James Licari, a council member of ICOM Malta, said: “Valletta is like a treasure chest, full of intriguing artistic ornaments housed in museums, baroque architecture and a vibrant pace of life that makes visitors stop and wonder what it is that makes this city so enchanting.”

Refreshments will be served after the event.
