French shooter Sebastian Guerrero won the trap competition at the 2016 Malta International Grand Prix which came to a close at the Bidnija Ranges yesterday.

Guerrero fended off the challenge of highly-rated Italian duo Giovanni Pellielo and Jessica Rossi to secure top spot in the competition.

After finishing third on Saturday, Guerrero maintained his strong form to seal his place in the semi-finals along with Italians Pellielo, Rossi and Massimo Fabbrizi, Slovakia’s Marian Kovacocy and Ali Simola, of Finland.

Guerrero was the first shooter to qualify for the gold medal play-off while Pellielo and Rossi were tied in second place, thus forcing a shoot-off.

Here, Pellielo prevailed to set up a final showdown with Guerrero while Rossi dropped to the third-place game against Kovacocy.

Guerrero kept his focus in the final to beat Olympic silver medallist Pellielo 14-12.

In the bronze medal match, Rossi, the 2012 London Olympics women’s trap gold medallist, eased past Kovacocy 14-10.
