Ronnie’s passing away to another life seems to bring to an end an era of pleasant memories when football was played as a sport, for fun and enjoyment, in friendly competition between rival ‘gangs’ in Sliema.

I have known Ronnie since we were in our teens and long after in between gaps of years when he founded the Libertas Sports Group and later as president of the Pembroke Athleta Sports and Football Clubs .

His unselfish contributions to sport (particularly football and basketball) both as a player and in later years as an ardent administrator of the above clubs are too long to mention .

He was certainly known for getting things done and made sure decisions taken were followed through.

My personal condolences and that of the committees of Pembroke Athleta Sports and Football Clubs, including the football nursery, go to his wife Francis and his children Julian and Michael. May he rest in peace.

The players of Pembroke Athleta Fooball Club wore a black armband during the club’s historical trophy semi-final match against Balzan on Sunday, and before the game a one-minute silence was observed in his memory.
