The first week of the third international PhD summer school on Integrated Product Development was held in Malta. The summer school is aimed at researchers interested in understanding and researching inter-relationships between design, manufacturing and business issues, as well as complex aspects involved in the lifecycle of products and services. Seen here are participants from Austria, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Tunisia and Ukraine, including PhD candidates from Daimler AG and Volvo Trucks. The participants familiarised themselves with the research work taking place at the Concurrent Engineering Research Unit of the University of Malta’s Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. The summer school was organised by Jonathan Borg from the University of Malta and Sandor Vajna of Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany, as well as Kristin Paetzold from Universität der Bundeswehr München. The second session will take place in Magdeburg in September.
