Form 2 students took part in an activity at the Sports Complex in Victoria to mark Europe Day.

During the event, Maria Monpalao from Bishops’ Conservatory Girls Secondary School, and Elena Jo Xiberras and the Ekoskola committee of Gozo College Secondary School, spoke about their experience of conducting research for their entries in a written, video and photo competition about migration and humanitarian aid, and how it had affected their views on these subjects.

The students and committee were the winners of the competition, which was organised by Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC), Victoria, and Young Reporters for Environment (YRE) Malta. They were each awarded an IPad. The committee members announced that they will donate its IPad to a person from Ghana who had helped them in their research.

The students took part in a human board game about Europe animated by Għaqda tal-Malti and sampled traditional food from different European countries. EDIC manager Marlene Muscat, Gozo Business Chamber president Joe Grech, Peter Agius, head of the European Parliament Office, and Elena Grech, head of the European Commission Representation in Malta, spoke at the event.

The activity was organised by EDIC in collaboration with the European Commission Representation, the European Parliament Office and YRE Malta.
