A life-size bronze statue of San Ġorġ Preca was recently installed in a niche on the façade of St James Church, Independence Square, Victoria. It was made by artist Manwel Farrugia.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, Gozo Minister Anton Refalo, MUSEUM Superior-General Natalino Camilleri and other civil and ecclesiastical authorities.

A €500 donation for the new statue was presented to Mgr Grech by Antoine Vassallo, diocesan president of the Catholic Action Movement. The donation was presented at the end of concelebrated Mass at the Catholic Action headquarters, Victoria, on the occasion of World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations Day.

Maltapost issued a commemorative handstamp to mark the unveiling, and special cards, designed by Anthony Grech, were issued by the Bishop’s Curia and Gozo Philatelic Society.
