Giampaolo: Empoli manager Marco Giampaolo will step down after their final game of the Serie A season this weekend just a year after taking charge. “I will no longer be the Empoli coach,” he said. “I can confirm that tomorrow (today) will be my last time on the bench.” Giampaolo joined Empoli in June 2015.

Women’s FA Cup: Arsenal Ladies won the Women’s FA Cup after beating Chelsea Ladies 1-0 in a close-fought game at Wembley, yesterday. Danielle Carter’s superb first-half strike was enough to secure the victory over the defending champions in front of a competition- record crowd of 32,912.

Hull win: Hull City took a significant step towards regaining their Premier League status at the first attempt with an emphatic 3-0 win at Derby County in the first leg of their Championship play-off semifinal yesterday. The comfortable win leaves Hull in the driving seat with the second leg on Tuesday. No team have overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit in a Championship play-off so, with Sheffield Wednesday beating Brighton 2-0 in the opening leg of the other semi on Friday, an all-Yorkshire final at Wembley looms on May 28.

Kicked out: Uganda are the latest country to be kicked out of the qualifying competition for the 2017 under-20 World Cup finals in South Korea after being caught for age cheating. Uganda’s expulsion follows a similar punishment for neighbours Kenya last month. The punishment was handed out because it was discovered Uganda fielded a player who had supplied two different dates of birth in the qualifying tie with Rwanda.
