A 28-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating the attack on the Manchester United team bus before last Tuesday’s Premier League clash at West Ham United.

The suspect handed himself in to an east London police station on Friday and was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

He was bailed to a date in mid-August, pending further in-quiries. Bottles and other objects were thrown at the coach as it made its way to Upton Park.

Lyon open talks with Ben Arfa

Lyon are in talks with reported Barcelona target Hatem Ben Arfa, club president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed.

The 29-year-old playmaker has got his career back on track with a stellar season at Nice, having lost his way at Newcastle and Hull.

His resurgence was not enough to earn him a place in France squad for this summer’s European Championship but has seen him linked with Barca and Bayern Munich as his contract comes to an end.

Aulas, though, remains optimistic of keeping Ben Arfa and bringing him back to the club where he started his career.

He said: “We are currently in talks with Hatem Ben Arfa and have made an offer. He is one of our priorities.”

PSG hand contract to Weah’s son

Paris St Germain have given an apprentice contract to the 16-year-old son of their former striker George Weah.

Timothy Weah’s displays for the capital club’s under-17 side have earned him the chance to further his career at the Parc des Princes.

His famous father played for PSG from 1992 to 1995, the year in which he won the Ballon d’Or award as world player of the year.

Timothy Weah is an under-17 international for the United States, the country of his birth.

Entire Rayo team deny match-fixing

Rayo Vallecano have strongly defended themselves against match-fixing allegations at an extraordinary press conference featuring their whole squad.

La Liga president Javier Tebas said on Friday that the league would investigate after Rayo’s 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad last week was subject to “abnormal” betting patterns.

And Rayo presented a united front ahead of their season-ending clash with Levante today, from which they need a positive result to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

Captain Roberto Trashorras and coach Paco Jemez were backed by the entire first team as they addressed the issue in front of the media.

Trashorras called the reports “frankly... false... false, lies” and insisted: “I would put my hand in the fire for this team.”

Terry mulling over ‘different role’

Chelsea captain John Terry says he will ponder his future carefully before deciding whether to accept the club’s offer of a new one-year deal and what he describes as “a different role”.

The Londoners announced on Friday that the former England skipper, who is out of contract at the end of the season, had been offered a 12-month extension.

However, it is uncertain whether Chelsea’s 35-year-old idol will agree to the deal.

“The contract extension the club have offered me is a different role and I hope everyone will understand I want to take the time to consider it carefully before making a decision,” Terry said without elaborating.

Bruges set sights on Belgian title

Club Bruges will win the Belgian championship if they beat closest rivals Anderlecht today and open up an unassailable lead at the top of the play-off standings.

Yet Bruges, who were last champions 11 years ago, have lost all three of this season’s meetings between the long-standing rivals – and Anderlecht are determined to stop their old adversaries’ march to the title.

“We’re going there for a win. We want to absolutely avoid Bruges winning the title,” Anderlecht coach Besnik Hasi said.

If they win today, Bruges will be six points clear with two matches left and will be guaranteed a 14th Belgian title on the basis of finishing top at the end of the regular season.

Mourinho has no deal yet with United

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has no agreement in place to take over at Manchester United, Sky Sports television said quoting unnamed sources.

The 53-year-old Portuguese has been the long-time favourite with bookmakers to succeed Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Mourinho, has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea when the 2014-15 Premier League champions were one point above the relegation zone in December.

Van Gaal said on Friday that he expected to serve the final season of his United contract he signed in 2014.

“I have said I shall be here, that is my opinion, so the board has to decide if it is like that,” the Dutchman told reporters.
