Fashion designer and artist Saz Mifsud merges the frailty and ephemerality of a beautiful flower with the long-lasting permanence of a fashion print in her latest collection, Pollen’s Poetry, being launched today.

The exhibition is Saz’s first at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta. On exhibit is her new collection of luxury silk scarves in various hues and sizes. The unique designs were created by means of the artist’s idiosyncratic combination of her own photo-graphy and digital manipulation.

Pollen’s Poetry sees Saz transform illustrated versions of her subject, in this case florals, into a digital mélange. The delicately artistic imagery is then developed into a design which is digitally printed onto different types of silk, creating Saz’s signature silk scarves. And what better way to appreciate the original design than on a scarf on which the full print can be appreciated?

The collection on display explores the concept of using the ephemeral qualities of flowers and plants to inspire silk prints that will last forever. This juxtaposition of themes is what drove certain elements of the collection – clear prints fading into blurred abstractions and bold colours fading into grey hues.

Follow the trail of Pollen’s Poetry and learn about digital print as you are immersed in the colourful silk world of Saz.

Pollen’s Poetry is on at Fort St Angelo, Vittoriosa, until Saturday.
