Costa Rica's Turrialba volcano belched clouds of incandescent fragments up into the air yesterday morning.

The explosion, recorded by the National Seismological Network in Costa Rica using a thermal camera permanently placed on the summit of the volcano.

In the dramatic video, infrared images show incandescent fragments falling close to the active crater and towards the end of the eruption, the erupting column falls, generating a pyroclastic wave close to the crater.

Last month, the volcano's most powerful eruption in two decades was recorded, forcing the evacuation of residents from the surrounding area.
