A 50-year-old cyclist was killed after he was hit by a vehicle in Mosta this afternoon. 

The incident happened in Triq San Pawl tal-Qlejgħa around 2.45pm when the cyclist, Ganni Dimech, collided with a Toyota Vitz, driven by a 29-year-old from Żebbuġ, according to the police. The cause of the incident is not yet known. 

An ambulance was rushed to the scene but the cyclist was certified dead on the spot. The victim is a Mosta resident born in Australia. The road was temporarily closed.

A magisterial inquiry is underway. 

In another incident, a 32-year-old motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following an accident in Kirkop. 

The incident happened at 3.15pm when the motorcyclist from Mqabba was emerging from the Kirkop tunnels. His motorbike skidded, hitting the centre strip, according to the police. 

He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. 

Police are investigating both incidents.
