For the sixth consecutive year, St Benedict secondary school of Kirkop is today organising Festa Komunità, to raise money for charity. This year the collection will be in aid of the Franciscan Sisters in London, who accommodate Maltese citizens when they are in London accompanying ill relatives.

These sisters work hard to ensure that Maltese people, who are going through difficult times, are as comfortable as possible when they are away from home.

Festa Komunità also enables the school to work hand in hand with entities within the communities which provide informal education after school hours, often related to music and sports. This year, band clubs and sports entities from Kirkop, Safi, Qrendi, Mqabba, Zurrieq, Birżebbuġa, Għaxaq and Gudja will be participating in Festa Komunità.

The event starts with an opening ceremony at 9am with a fun run around Kirkop and Safi.

Following this, students will participate in a sports festival. A group of Maltese professional football players will join the students for a football tournament.

The evening programme will start with a band consisting of several members of the different band clubs in the villages round the school. In 2014, the school managed to break the record for the largest number of musicians from different band clubs who gathered to play as one band.

The school grounds will host different activities, which include a bazaar, food stalls, an exhibition of vintage cars and various games. There will also be a musical programme on stage, giving St Benedict students the chance to show off their talents.
