It has been reported that there was an increase of some 29 per cent in traffic accidents. So, if I may ask, what are the authorities doing about this?

The only warped control is parking but even this is done at random and on an unjustified basis.

Double yellow lines are drawn without logic and the wardens are selective in their efforts. Why do certain areas, such as those close to bread and cheesecake shops, gambling outlets and ATMs, seem to be immune?

Parking in front of garages is of no importance to enforcement officers and a wait of an hour or more is the order of the day.

Proper traffic control is essential. The revenue that can be secured by deploying mobile traffic policemen will be far more than the cost to run such a system. If need be there could be a special force dedicated to traffic.

Just to mention some infringements: shooting out of side streets, ignoring stop signs, failing to use indicators, using mobile phones while driving irrespective of the higher fines, overtaking, faulty lights, failing to use the headlamps and so many other contraventions.

With the excessive amount of cars on our roads, and some very inefficient drivers, the authorities must take immediate and urgent action to control the anarchy on our roads.

Can the Transport Minister and the Police Commissioner please give us their views?
