In the midst of our tribulations, life has many marvels that give us considerable comfort and contentment. The talents embodied in the personality of Joseph Ganado were utilised to the best of his ability with the impeccable results of his contribution to the legal profession, his students of law, the public, his family and the common good.

It would rightly be said that he was God's faithful servant in garnering so much profit from the talents imparted on him.

I have been fortunate in knowing him so well through family connections. Certainly for the past 50 years, I have been impressed by his rectitude, profound legal knowledge, erudition and his sense of fair play and justice.

In times of difficulty, he was a beacon of hope and the soundest prop any family could wish for and his expertise, which underpinned his virtues, augured so much relief in times of crisis. But, at times of heightened emotion, he never lacked a timely sense of humour.

We thank God for giving Joe to us but sincerely lament his loss. The deepest esteem in which he was held by all in every walk of life was truly manifest in the very large crowd that attended his funeral.

Pope Francis rightly stated: "We need saints that are open, sociable, normal, happy companions. We need saints who know how to enjoy the best in this world without being callous or mundane".

Joe epitomised these virtues in full measure and what a legacy he has handed down to this country that will sustain his memory.

To Angela, Max and Johanna and their families my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy at this time of grief.
