A 25-year-old environmentally conscious woman has fit four years’ worth of waste into a small glass jar.

New York based entrepreneur Lauren Singer leads a plastic-free lifestyle and shares her tricks on her website, Trash is for Tossers

An Environmental Studies major, Ms Singer was inspired her to attempt “a zero waste way of living”.

She makes her own toothpastes, body lotions and laundry detergents, among many other products to avoid buying products packed in plastic.

She also founded a company, the Simply Co, to sell her home-made laundry detergent.

Her website is devoted to encouraging people to reduce their environmental impact.

“A waste-free life is achievable and affordable,” she says, adding that “if I can do it, anyone can”.
