Some months ago, I drew the attention of my local council to a danger spot on the pavement just across from the old PN club in Regional Road, Santa Venera, and was told they had contacted the people responsible.

The danger is posed by concrete slabs covering a deep Enemalta service pit, which have subsided by about three to four inches, creating a step that could very easily trip one up. If one is not very careful, one could have a nasty accident.

It is, in fact, an accident waiting to happen. Deep cracks can also be seen affording easy access to the pit for vermin.

As I write nothing has yet been done.

Talking of danger spots, I cannot help mentioning the ugly state in which the beds of the trees near the bus shelters at City Gate bus depot have been left.

Some months ago, I had the unpleasant experience of watching an elderly gentleman tripping in one of them. I am sending a photo (right) of the offending spot.

I think these spots and all too many others all around us are the hallmarks of careless workmen, their supervisors and blind planners.
