The committee members of the NGO Wirt San Ġwann would like to thank and congratulate all those who for the past weeks and months had been signing petitions and organising meetings and protests to urge the Planning Authority to reject the development of Wied Għomor and protect it.

It was well worth the effort by civil society to make its case against the strange application for an old people’s home in the valley, which is the sole remaining open space where we can breathe since we are surrounded by a conglomeration of buildings.

Special thanks go to the three councils of Swieqi, San Ġwann and St Julian’s, the two Nationalist MPs Marthese Portelli and Kristy Debono, Arnold Cassola, architect William Soler, the various NGOs and the 4,500 residents who signed the petitions.

All that remains now is for the quarry to be filled up and restored to its pristine condition as a green valley with a great number of trees to be enjoyed by us and our children.
