Din l-Art Ħelwa is this year presenting the 20th edition of the Bir Miftuħ Music Festival, which has established itself as one of the highlights of the cultural calendar.
The beautiful chapel of Santa Marija ta’ Bir Miftuħ, with its medieval architecture and frescoes, and perfect acoustics, provides a truly unique setting for these concerts.
The festival continues to develop its international flavour with the participation of outstanding musicians from Italy, Israel, France and Malta. This year’s programme is as follows:
First concert – Saturday, May 21 at 8pm
Classical accordion recital by Pietro Roffi
During this special performance one can truly appreciate the versatility and expressive sound of the accordion – an instrument which “is almost an orchestra in itself”.
Pietro Roffi will regale the audience with works by Vivaldi, Janáček, Piazzolla, Grieg, Hermosa, Saint-Saëns and Zolotarjov.
This concert is being held under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute.
Second concert – Saturday, May 28 at 8pm
Double bass and harp performance by Gjorgji Cincievski and Esmeralda Galea Camilleri
This unusual combination of instruments will surely be a most enthralling experience.
