Since my youth, I have been following Pawlu Mizzi’s work in publishing and promoting reading on Malta and among the Maltese.

From the 1970s till today his publishing houses have produced innumerable books on the most varied subjects related to Malta’s culture and aimed at all generations of readers.

I don’t think it is an exaggeration to state that without his work Malta’s public and private libraries would be poorer and not only in number.

Though my career has taken me on a different path from that related to Maltese I have always found his publications stimulating. Indeed, he has done ground-breaking work and, in many ways, is a visionary as far as Maltese books are concerned.

I am also convinced that I am expressing the wish of numerous readers. For this and many other reasons, I am taking the cue of previous contributors to declare that Mizzi really deserves tobe known with the title of Missier il-ktieb Malti – Father of the Maltese book.
