Nowadays one finds a plethora of skincare products that are specifically targeted at men – from a wide range of shower gels to moisturisers to eye serums. But do men care that much about their skin’s health and do they stick to a daily routine? Here are some opinions.

Christian Attard Brown, 28

Do you think you take proper care of your skin?

I’m not a fanatic when it comes to skincare. However, I make it a must to wash my hair with a proper shampoo while I shower, which is at least twice daily. I shave my beard and hair once a week. Quite often, I apply moisturiser to my face. During the summer period I apply sun screen, especially when I am by the sea.

Have you ever had problem skin?

Sometimes I have dry skin, especially in winter.

What kind of products do you use for your skincare on a regular basis?

Shampoo, shower gels, shaving gel and moisturiser.

Do you think there is anything else you should do and you don’t?

Yes, there is something I should start doing regularly: apply body and hand cream. I don’t do it because I think it’s a waste of time. However, applying a disinfectant cream is important considering the amount of bacteria found on objects. Working at a bank, I come into direct contact with money all the time.

Do you think men feel comfortable talking about their skincare regime?

Personally I don’t feel comfortable talking about beauty products since I think it’s a more feminine issue.

Depends. I don’t do anything besides a normal wash.

Yes. In winter my hands get dry and crack, which in turn ends up being quite painful.

During wintertime I usually use moisturiser.

Do you think there is anything else you should do and you don’t?

I'm sure there are products that would probably help me maintain healthier skin, but I don’t particularly seek out such things.

Do you think men feel comfortable talking about their skincare regime?

No, I don’t think that men in general are that comfortable talking about, or buying products, but with recent lifestyle changes that seems to be slowly changing, especially when it comes to maintaining a healthy beard.

Currently no.

Have you ever had problem skin?

Yes, I used to suffer from severe acne.

What kind of products do you use for your skincare on a regular basis?

None.

Do you think there is anything else you should do and you don’t?

I could rinse my face with cleansing soap or the like but don’t do it. As long as it doesn’t hurt, I don’t really care.

Do you think men in general feel comfortable talking about their skincare regime?

Most men are not comfortable, interested or knowledgeable regarding skincare. It definitely is neither macho nor cool.

I wash my face simply with water but then I use coconut oil twice a day to moisturise my face and once a week I have a natural scrub – I apply honey, leave it for about 15 minutes and rinse it away. I also apply sun screen when I go to the beach.

Currently I’m satisfied with my skincare regime.
