The Malta International Food Festival is returning to Mdina for another celebration of some of the world’s best cuisine. To address its increased popularity, an extra day has been added to the festival this yearl, making it a three-day event from Friday, May 6 up to Sunday, May 8.

Designated food areas are being decorated to give visitors the opportunity to virtually transport themselves to different countries and regions, being interpreted through the culinary expertise of various chefs.

This festival is a showcase for recipes from different countries and cultures. Those attending will be able to indulge in freshly prepared American, Chinese, Japanese, German, Brazilian, Asian, Indian, Italian, Spanish, Greek and, of course, Maltese dishes.

A new concept this year will feature taster dishes at €2 each for patrons to taste small portions from various kitchens.

The festival was first organised by a group of food enthusiasts from Żabbar as part of a regeneration exercise. It instantly attracted large crowds and became popular, particularly with people from the south of the island.

Encouraged by the response, the Malta International Food Festival got organised with the aim of elevating the festival to a more professional and commercial platform.

The event was relocated to Mdina last year. The Mdina ditch was specifically chosen to add to the experience and ambience.

The event attracted thousands of people to the restored Mdina ditch last year, where food stalls and mobile kitchens were set up, ready to serve patrons food from over 14 international cuisines. More than 17,000 people attended.

A more impressive turnout is expected this year.

Entrance is free of charge and patrons will be able to purchase tokens and redeem them for any food they would like to taste. Drinks, including a variety of quality wines, will also be on sale during the festival.

A park and ride service will be available from Triq l-Infetti, right beneath Mdina.
