Kris Borg writes:

Joe Ganado is with us no more. The legal community and the country at large have lost one of the greatest legal brains ever seen in Malta and abroad. However, he was not just a great legal brain but also one of the finest gentlemen you can possibly imagine.

Incredibly successful as a lawyer, he also devoted a huge portion of his time teaching law at the university where he was also dean of the Faculty of Law and where he, devotedly and passionately, lectured for well over 50 years. Decades later, all his students still feel privileged to have been lectured Civil Law by “Il-Profs”, as he was more affectionately known.

He combined a very deep knowledge of the law with a childlike excitement for any legal matter that a multitude of lawyers brought before him to pick his brain for wise and experienced counsel. At the same time, he was always so approachable and willing to help, with a disarming smile that was never absent, not even after having conducted oral exams, for hours on end, in the hot summer months.

His personality was larger than life and even the most senior legal brains always remained in awe of him, long after having left the University benches. He retained a legal fatherly figure, commanding immense and deserved respect and his departure leaves a huge void.

His legacy will live on in the law firm he established and in the gratitude that all his former students will always retain for him till we see his smile again.

To his wife, children and family, my condolences.

Thanks for everything, Profs.
