Opposition leader Simon Busuttil this evening hit out at Prime Minister Joseph Muscat for failing to put the Panama Papers scandal behind him by voting in against of a no confidence motion against Minister Konrad Mizzi.

Giving comments after the vote in parliament, Dr Busuttil said people are disappointed with Dr Muscat, whom he described as being “cut off and out of sync”.

“The prime minister had the opportunity to put the Panama Papers behind him…Instead of doing what people wanted he did what he wanted. He acted in his personal interest and not in the national one,” Dr Busuttil said.

Dr Busuttil said that after last week’s “farcical reshuffle” people were hoping that Parliament would do what the prime minister failed to.

“We will keep on insisting on action. I am proud that the Opposition reflected public sentiment,” Dr Busuttil said.

He vowed that the Opposition would keep on working in the public interest and would not allow the matter to be brushed under the carpet.

Dr Busuttil said he expected all laws of the country to be applied equally. Certain institutions such as the police, the attorney general and inland revenue have failed to act on the scandal, he said.
