Justice Minister Owen Bonnici has still not made up his mind over whether to contest the Labour Party election of deputy leader for party affairs.

Nominations have to be made on Monday and Tuesday.

"My first priority is to understand what is in the best interest of the party. I have been approached by many delegates asking me to put my hat in the ring, but I will be taking the decision closer to the day," the minister said this morning.

Economic Services Minister Chris Cardona is so far the only person to have announced his decision to contest the post vacated by Konrad Mizzi, who was elected in February to replace Toni Abela.

Asked if he thought this would be another one-horse race, Dr Bonnici said he did not know, but did not think so.

Dr Mizzi resigned last week in the wake of the Panama scandal and the Cabinet reshuffle.
