Foreigners, aged between 14 and 18, who do not reside in Malta will be able to practice target shooting in a licensed range, subject to any conditions set by the Commissioner of Police, following Parliament’s approval this evening of an amendment to the Arms Act.

Opening the debate, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said the amendment was motivated solely by sport requirements and built on an earlier amendment moved by the previous administration.

Opposition sport spokesman David Agius said the Opposition agreed with the provisions of the Bill.

The Malta International Grand Prix 2016 will be held at the Malta Shooting Sport Federation ranges in Bidnija next week. Events will be held in skeet, double trap and trap.

Around 100 participants are expected to take part in the competition including 50 foreigners, one of whom is aged under 18.
